He mastered architecture and homebuilding, harmoniously integrating them under the guidance of some of the country’s pioneers in the two fields. The outcome of this endeavor was Carol Homes, established in 1997, a production homebuilding company that advocates the individuality and integrity of each home.

As an architect in Chicago, Saleem studied under the late Alfred Caldwell, an apprentice to the celebrated American architect Frank Lloyd Wright. He also worked under the direction of Paul Thomas, a student of the legendary German architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.

In 1984, Saleem Zaru earned one of the highest honors an architect could aspire for: The American Institute of Architects Gold Medal for Excellence in Architecture.

As a homebuilder, Saleem learned the homebuilding business from his mentor, once partner, and long-time friend, James P. Ryan Sr. (founder of Ryland Homes). In 1994, Mr. Zaru and Mr. Ryan established a company that remains a pioneer in homebuilding and mortgage financing in the Middle East. Through this successful endeavor Mr. Ryan became, and remains to this day, a close friend and confidant to both Saleem and Carol Homes.
